Lewis & Clarke

[mp3]

Honestly, aside from them contributing to our best of list last year, we had sort of forgotten about Lou Rogal & Co... Lewis & Clarke. Yes, the puns and funny jokes can easily be made about oh, well, everything having to do with traversing prairies. BUT, their great 2006 record Bare Bones and Branches featured a shambling Americana filled with nostalgic melodies and soft folk-tinged vocals, and should not have been forgotten about. For their upcoming tour with Bat for Lashes, Lewis & Clarke are releasing a new limited edition vinyl EP entitled Light Time, which includes a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel #2", one of (my) all-time favorite songs. The mp3 above is quite fitting for what seems to be a gray day across the East Coast, but no matter your mood, there is no denying its pervasive loveliness. It reminds us a bit of those excellent Yo La Tengo tracks culled from the Old Joy soundtrack: delicate and melodic, yet undeniably melancholy. See their tour dates and EP cover art, where? After the jump - of course.
